China department stores are now actively consider to transfer from leasing model to buying model. Leasing model has the advantage of allowing rapid expansion without a large capital outlay. The advantages of ownership are making the business easier to renovate, saving money on rent, lowering depreciation costs by stretching out the depreciation period, also there might be potential capital gains. Beyond the controversial issues of business model, China department stores also are facing a problem of lacking professiong buyers to take the reponsibility in sales and stocks.
